Growing up in a home influenced by her father, a self-taught artist, Millicent’s early exposure to art ignited her passion for painting and drawing. She honed her skills at the University of Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Painting in 2002.

Millicent Osumuo Onuegbu is a Nigerian contemporary artist and artpreneur. Growing up in a home influenced by her father, a self-taught artist, Millicent’s early exposure to art ignited her passion for painting and drawing. She honed her skills at the University of Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Painting in 2002.

In 2005, Millicent established Colourmimi Studio in Abuja, where she has continued her full-time artistic practice. Her work reflects her diverse life experiences and explores a range of themes, resulting in a vibrant and dynamic portfolio that has earned her numerous exhibitions, collaborations, and accolades.

Millicent also pursued further business education, completing an Owner Manager Programme at the Lagos Business School in 2022 and currently studying Strategy and Innovation. This blend of artistic and business expertise allows her to approach her creative practice with a well-rounded perspective, strengthening her position as a leading contemporary artist and entrepreneur.

Our Creative Process.

My creative journey begins with a spark of inspiration. Sometimes from a fleeting moment, a powerful emotion, or an intriguing concept. I actively seek out inspiration from various sources – nature, literature, music, conversations, and even the mundane aspects of everyday life. Often times restless and hungry for new experiences.

My creative process is dynamic and ever-evolving. I have a deep curiosity and an insatiable desire to explore, refusing to be confined to a single medium or style. This results in multiple and never-ending genres of Art. I embrace a wide range of artistic disciplines, from painting to sculpture, photography to dye sublimation. Always seeking fresh ways to communicate my ideas.
Once I feel that initial inspiration, I immerse myself in experimentation. I fearlessly explore different techniques and media, embracing vulnerability and fearlessness. Confronting mistakes and embracing imperfections. While understanding that it is through these moments of exploration that discoveries emerge.
I thrive on pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone, actively seek out challenges by venturing into unfamiliar territories. This may involve collaborating with other artists, learning new skills, or even shattering and the “glass ceilings” of art, by constantly challenging myself and keeping my creative juices flowing to prevent stagnation.
My creative process is not linear; it is a web of interconnected ideas and experiences. I often find myself working on multiple projects simultaneously, allowing each one to inform and inspire the other and at the same time, embrace the chaos and unpredictability of this approach. This helps me find inspiration in the intersections and overlaps between different artistic endeavors.
Throughout my creative process, I remain open to new possibilities and eventualities, also understanding that creativity cannot be forced but rather flows naturally when in tune with intuition. I trust my instincts and allow my ideas to evolve and take shape organically.
In the end, my creative process is a journey of constant exploration, growth, and self-discovery. It is an expression of my restless spirit, always seeking to push boundaries, challenge conventions, and create something truly unique and transformative
